£3.725m funding from The Health Foundation to establish research unit

The University of Oxford has received £3.725m in funding from The Health Foundation to establish the REAL research unit.

Led by the Nuffield Department of Population Health, the new unit will aim to understand health and social care demand by analysing factors like demographics, technology, and public expectations. The team, led by Head of Department Professor Hamish Low, will identify drivers of demand and focus on sustainability and equal distribution.

The unit will also study the economics of demand and uncertainty management, and analyse major health crises like COVID-19's impact and work-limiting health conditions. The resulting research will inform policies for better healthcare access and resilient systems.
